FAQ

Short answers to common questions that do not have a page of their own.

What is Nimbo?#

Nimbo is a desktop sync client for Nextcloud on Windows. It keeps folders on your PC in step with your Nextcloud, both ways, and can also show your whole account as files that download when you open them. It adds sharing and version history to Explorer, and lets you open your Nextcloud apps in their own windows. It is free for personal use.

Does Nimbo collect any data?#

No. Nimbo talks to your own Nextcloud server, and to GitHub to check for updates, and nothing else. There is no analytics and no automatic crash reporting of any kind.

Is it safe if my server is attacked or restored from an old backup?#

Nimbo is built to avoid copying that kind of damage onto your PC. If one sync would remove or replace at least half of a folder's files (and at least 50 of them), or the server suddenly lists far fewer files than expected, the folder is paused until you check it, and your copy on this PC is left exactly as it was. Replaced files count as well as deleted ones, which is what catches ransomware, since it usually encrypts files in place. See Sync paused, needs review.

Smaller deletions go through as normal, however your copies go to the Recycle Bin rather than being destroyed.

Where are my logs?#

Under Settings → General → Troubleshooting → View logs. Tick Verbose (debug) logging there when you are trying to track down a problem.

Is there a command-line version?#

There is one in the source code, covering signing in, syncing and file operations, however it is not included in the installer, so you need to build it yourself.

Can I use Nimbo at work?#

Nimbo is free for personal use. Using it in a business needs a licence, which also covers central management and white-label branding, see Nimbo for business.

How do I report a problem or ask for a feature?#

See Reporting a bug. Feature ideas are welcome as an issue on GitHub.
