How updates arrive#

Nimbo checks for a new version a couple of minutes after it starts and then once a day. When there is one, a Nimbo update available notification appears with an Update now button. Clicking it installs the update and restarts Nimbo, which normally takes a few seconds. Your sign-in, settings and sync state are all kept, so it carries on where it left off.

You can also check at any time from Settings → General → About → Check for updates, and install from there with Update now.

Checking when you are signed out#

If you have not signed in, or have signed out of every account, you can still update. Right-click the tray icon and choose Check for updates…, and the panel offers the same check. This is worth doing before you sign in again after a long break, since a fix for a sign-in problem may already be out.

Beta builds#

Beta builds are versions that are still being tested, released so that problems are found before everyone gets them. They change often and are less tested than normal releases, and as with any sync software a bug can affect the files being synced, so only turn them on if you are comfortable with that and keep a backup of anything important.

To get them, tick Get beta releases early under Settings → General → About and confirm. Unticking it stops future betas but does not move you back, so you stay on the beta you have until a normal release overtakes it.

Microsoft Store edition#

If you bought Nimbo from the Microsoft Store, the Store updates it for you and Nimbo's own update check is switched off. Store updates go through Microsoft's review first, so they can arrive a little later than the direct download.

If an update fails#

1. Quit Nimbo from the tray menu (Quit Nimbo) and start it again, then try Update now once more.
2. If it still fails, download the latest Nimbo-Setup.exe and run it with Nimbo closed. It updates the existing install in place and keeps your settings.
