Sharing and version history

Share a file or folder#

Right-click a file or folder in your sync folder and choose Nimbo → Share. The window that opens lists who it is already shared with, and lets you:

• Create public link to get a link anyone can open. You can set a password and an expiry date, and tick Allow editing & uploads if people with the link should be able to change it. Once the link is created, click Copy next to it to copy it, or Open to try it.
• Share with a user on your Nextcloud by entering their username, with Allow editing & uploads if they should be able to edit.

Each existing share shows whether it Can edit or is View only, and Remove takes it away. To change what someone can do, remove the share and create it again, or change it in Nextcloud's web interface, since shares made here are ordinary Nextcloud shares.

Version history#

Nextcloud keeps older versions of a file as it changes. To see them, right-click the file and choose Nimbo → Version history. Clicking Restore next to a version makes it the current file, and the copy you had before is kept as a version too, so restoring never loses anything.

How many versions are kept, and for how long, is decided by your Nextcloud server rather than by Nimbo.

When something is no longer shared with you#

When a folder someone shared with you is unshared, or you are removed from a group folder, or an administrator unmounts an external storage, the folder simply disappears from your account on the server. Nobody deleted it, and nothing goes to anyone's trash, so Nimbo keeps your local copy instead of removing it.

The folder stops syncing, you get a notification, and it is listed under No longer shared in the Sync status window (right-click the tray icon, then Sync status). You then choose what to do with it:

• Keep as my own makes the folder yours, and it uploads to your own account like any new folder.
• Move it out… moves it to a folder of your choice outside your sync folders, where it is left alone.
• Delete my copy sends it to the Recycle Bin.

Until you choose, the copy is left exactly where it is, and is neither uploaded nor removed.

In Virtual file system mode the copy cannot stay inside your sync folder, because that folder only shows what is on the server. Nimbo instead keeps the files you had actually downloaded (ones you had opened, kept on this device or edited) and moves them to a folder beside your sync folder called Nimbo - no longer shared. Files you never opened were only placeholders with no content on your PC, so there is nothing of them to keep. Keep as my own moves the folder back into your sync folder, where it uploads to your account.

Files deleted inside a shared folder by its owner are still removed from your PC as normal.
