Real-time push
With real-time push, changes made on the server reach your PC within a few seconds instead of on the next check.
What it does#
Without push, Nimbo asks your server for changes every 30 seconds, so a file someone else edits can take up to half a minute to appear on your PC. With push, the server tells Nimbo the moment something changes, and it syncs straight away. Changes you make on your PC upload straight away either way.
Push is optional. Everything syncs without it, just with that short delay.
What your server needs#
Push relies on the Client Push app (notify_push) being installed and running on your Nextcloud server. It is the same service the official Nextcloud clients use, and Nimbo needs nothing extra beyond it.
Installing it is part of looking after the server rather than something Nimbo can do, and how it is done depends on how your server is set up. If you run your own server, follow the project's own guide at github.com/nextcloud/notify_push. If someone else runs it, ask them whether Client Push can be turned on.
Checking it is working#
Open Settings → General → Troubleshooting and look at Real-time push under Connection health:
| What it says | What it means |
|---|---|
| ● connected | Push is working. |
| ● reconnecting… | The connection dropped, for example after your network changed. It reconnects by itself, and syncing carries on in the meantime. |
| not set up on this server | The server does not have Client Push, so Nimbo checks for changes every 30 seconds instead. |
Nimbo looks for Client Push when it starts, so restart Nimbo once it has been set up on the server.
